Dos Anjos vs. Cerrone 2, officially called UFC On FOX 17 took place this weekend in Orlando, Florida and it did not disappoint.
It took UFC Lightweight Champ Rafael Dos Anjos 66 seconds to TKO the number two Lightweight Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone of the very first round.
This was RDA’s (Rafael Dos Anjos) first title defense after destroying the former champion Anthony Pettis.
In the first fight between the two in August of 2013, it went all the way. Dos Anjos would win by unanimous decision.
The fight was quick and precise. RDA was landing precise punches and kicks. Dos Anjos had stunned Cerrone with a knee to the body.
Cerrone then tried a takedown that was quickly reversed. RDA was then on top landing punches to where ref Herb Dean had to stop the fight.
Cerrone looked lost from the get go. He was getting bullied by RDA. Once Cerrone was grounded, Dos Anjos looked up to Dean to stop the fight after delivering blow after blow.
At this time “Cowboy” was only defending himself with one one hand; So there for received a solid amount of punches to face and head.
After the fight. RDA claimed “this is my weight class” after comments that Featherweight Champion Connor McGregor wanted to fight in both Feather and Lightweight divisions.
Both Cerrone and RDA agreed that McGregor would be destroyed if he did in fact move up in weight.
It would be an interesting match to see no matter what happens. In the meantime McGregor would look to defend his title for the first time, and RDA would defend his title for the second.
After the performance there’s no doubt that Dos Anjos is a fluke. He is here to stay. He is on his way to be one of the best pound for pound champions in the UFC.
