The New York Giants lost on Sunday.

That wasn’t the only loss that day. The real loss came on Monday morning when the NFL announced that it will suspend New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. one game after his despicable actions on the Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman.

The move was a helmet-to-helmet hit that Beckham put on an unsuspecting Norman in the second half. Beckham and Norman were pushing, shoving, and punching after the whistle was blown on multiple occasions Sunday.  Norman who was also being aggressive didn’t think his actions compared to the Giants wide receiver.

“I hope the league office takes a better look at it. Players like that don’t need to be in the game,” said Norman of Beckham’s actions.  Beckham announced that he plans on appealing the one game suspension.

Besides the game being overshadowed by Beckham’s actions, it was one that went down to the wire. The Panthers escaped with a 38-35 win after leading in the double digits for most of the game.  The Giants rallied late to make it an interesting finale in MetLife Stadium.

New York still has a chance to make thr playoffs. They have a crucial game against the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday.  New York will play with the possibility of not having their star wide receiver on the field.  This makes the Giants chances of winning the NFC East tough.

Another loser after Sunday’s actions will be the NFL itself.  As mentioned earlier the Giants game against the Vikings will now be a Sunday Night Football game. A primetime game on NBC to closeout Sunday’s football games.

This must have been a difficult but necessary step that the league had to take to deal with this type of incident.

The hit occurred in the second half after both Beckham and Norman had had previous exchanges throughout the game.  The hit happed away from the ball when Beckham flew in made helmet-to-helmet contact on a defenseless Norman.  The Panthers corner acted and kneed Beckham in the head before both teams clashed for a few moments.

Surprisingly, Beckham was not ejected after his actions.  The NFL officials must have missed the apparent dirty play.  The hit was a stupid cheap shot simple and plain.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter Beckham claimed that the actions might have been incited by some Panthers players participating in a pre-game activity that involved baseball bats. The players including Norman were pointing or taunting Beckham with the bats.

Odell Beckham Jr is one of the NFL’s rising stars.  In only his second season he is only 26 yards away from passing Randy Moss for most yards for a wide receiver in their first two seasons. He has scored for the Giants in the last five games and has 10 touchdowns in New York’s 14 games.

He was last year’s offensive rookie of the year. He has had some of the best if not the best catches in the league.

The actions of Beckham overshadowed what turned out to be a terrific game. Beckham would receive three unnecessary roughness calls and Josh Norman would receive two.

Since this a first time suspension for Beckham he might not have to miss this Sunday’s game.  He might just get fined and be ready to go against the Vikings.  The Giants are 6-8 and 2-3 in the NFC East with two games left in the season.

Beckham lost his cool. Now the fans might miss out on watching a great NFL talent on primetime this weekend. Whether he plays or not this Sunday will be decided this week.
